At the end of the workshop, the attendees enjoyed a lunch buffet and had an opportunity to talk with the financial advisor. ELTA held their second financial empowerment workshop on February 19, 2005 at the HERO Community Center. ELTA through a contract with the School District of Philadelphia initiated the Philadelphia Teens at Work Program at A. Phillip Randolph Technical and Vocational High School in May 2005. The objective of the Philadelphia Teens at Work program was to provide a series of three comprehensive workshops aimed to acquaint secondary students with career options that are traditionally reserved for individuals of a particular gender as well as steps toward securing employment in those fields. Students were able to self assess themselves and plot a personal course to prepare them for their desired careers. Through exposing students to professionals in non traditional trade careers, we helped to enhance their interest in those related fields and increase the number of males and females working in those respective fields upon graduating from high school. Because of the outstanding results with this pilot program, ELTA received a one-year contract with the School District of Philadelphia to implement the program at six Philadelphia area vocational technical schools. Participating secondary students attended a two-day course that encompassed three separate learning modules and consisted of lectures, guest speaker presentations and hands-on activities (e.g., role playing career-related scenarios). The two-day course followed a written agenda and a standardized training manual . T he Philadelphia Teens at Work (PTAW) program for the 2005-2006 school year was designed to accomplish the following three objectives:
